Do You Know What It Means…?

Blues Routes Classic -Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans?

Originally recorded, and aired, in early September 2005, just two weeks after Katrina (and while I was in exile from the city I had only recently moved to) this Blues Routes special was intended as both a consideration of the song “Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans” while at the same time presenting some small insight into the horror that had so recently overtaken one of America’s greatest cities.

In an ironic reversal of the old blues saying, “you don’t miss your water ’til the well runs dry,” the drowned reality of New Orleans government created disaster was a wake up call for all who love the art, the cuisine, the music and the people of The Crescent City. A city that has always celebrated in the midst of the storm, these days is coming back full swing.
